Dorothy Height to Pen Foreword for
Inaugural Edition of Who’s Who In Black Washington,
D.C.™

Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s
largest annual directory publisher targeting the African-American
market, proudly announces that Dorothy Height has signed on to pen
the foreword for the inaugural edition of Who’s
Who In Black Washington, D.C.™
For nearly half a century, Height has been pivotal in the struggle
for equality and human rights for all people. She is well known
for her leadership role with the YWCA and the National Council of
Negro Women (NCNW).
During the period of the New Deal, Height worked as a caseworker
for the New York Welfare Department and was the first black chosen
to deal with the Harlem riots of 1935, thus beginning her career
as a civil rights advocate. She worked for Mary McLeod Bethune,
founder and president of the NCNW, to reform women’s rights
for equal employment, pay and education. Likewise, she worked closely
with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Roy Wilkins, Whitney Young, A.
Phillip Randolph and others in the 1960s. From 1944 until 1977,
Height was a staff member of the national board of the YWCA of the
U.S.A. Height was elected national president of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. in 1947, and from 1957 until February 2, 1998, she
served as president of the NCNW, where she is now chair and president
emerita.
Height was honored with the Spingarn Medal and inducted into the
National Women’s Hall of Fame. President Bill Clinton presented
her the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in 1994, and on her
92nd birthday, President George Bush presented her with the Congressional
Gold Medal.

Foster Named Associate Publisher for
Who's Who In Black Washington, D.C.™

market, proudly announces that Maurice Foster will join the company
as the associate publisher for its Who’s Who In
Black Washington, D.C.™
publication. Foster currently serves as the deputy executive director
of the National Bar Association (NBA), the nation’s oldest
and largest organization of black attorneys and judges.
Foster brings to Who’s Who Publishing a wealth of resources,
skills, and national and international connections to position the
Washington publication to become a global show piece. Since 1999,
Foster has worked with Thompson West, a leading provider of integrated
legal research and information solutions in the United States, to
lead the NBA in donating online legal research services to the United
Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the
United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
(ICTY). The NBA donation, valued in the millions, remains the largest
donation in the history of the International Criminal Courts.
A graduate of Rutgers University and Antioch School of Law with
continuing studies at Yale University, Foster is a Certifi ed Meeting
Planner (CMP). He was managing editor of NBA Magazine during
the 1980s and 1990s and developed it into the nation’s leading
legal publication for African-American attorneys and judges.
Foster plans to make Who’s Who In Black Washington,
D.C™ a “must-have”
for professionals in all fi elds, as well as a celebrated refl ection
of African-American achievement in the nation’s capital. According
