Dorothy Height to Pen Foreword for
Inaugural Edition of Who’s Who In Black Washington,
D.C.™
Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s largest annual directory publisher targeting the African-American market, proudly announces that Dorothy Height has signed on to pen the foreword for the inaugural edition of Who’s Who In Black Washington, D.C.™
For nearly half a century, Height has been pivotal in the struggle for equality and human rights for all people. She is well known for her leadership role with the YWCA and the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW).
During the period of the New Deal, Height worked as a caseworker for the New York Welfare Department and was the fi rst black chosen to deal with the Harlem riots of 1935, thus beginning her career as a civil rights advocate. She worked for Mary McLeod Bethune, founder and president of the NCNW, to reform women’s rights for equal employment, pay and education. Likewise, she worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Roy Wilkins, Whitney Young, A. Phillip Randolph and others in the 1960s. From 1944 until 1977, Height was a staff member of the national board of the YWCA of the U.S.A. Height was elected national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1947, and from 1957 until February 2, 1998, she served as president of the NCNW, where she is now chair and president emerita.
Height was honored with the Spingarn Medal and inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame. President Bill Clinton presented her the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in 1994, and on her 92nd birthday, President George W. Bush presented to her the Congressional Gold Medal.

Womack brings a plethora of resources, skills and national connections to position the
District of Columbia publication to become a national centerpiece. He is past international president of the Washington, D.C.-headquartered Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. In addition, he is president and chief executive officer of Leadership At Its Best, LLC, a company that provides leadership and development training, and diversity strategy planning to corporations, businesses and nonprofit organizations. The company also offers leadership and development training for college/university and public school students.
A member of many national, state and local organizations, Womack was the 27th and 29th national president of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He was the 28th national president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. and was a three-term city councilman for the City of Akron, Ohio. Previously, he was a member of the U.S. Jaycees and chairman of the Alabama A&M University Foundation.
