Congressman Rangel Signs on to Pen
Foreword for Who's Who In Black New York City™
Columbus,
Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s
largest annual directory publisher targeting the African-American
market, proudly announces that Congressman Charles B. Rangel, has
agreed to pen the foreword for the inaugural edition of Who’s
Who In Black New York City™.
The current chairman of the powerful Committee on Ways and Means,
Rangel is serving his 19th
term as the representative from the 15th Congressional District,
comprising East and Central Harlem, the Upper West Side and Washington
Heights/Inwood. Additionally, he is chairman of the board of the
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and dean of the New
York State Congressional Delegation. Rangel was elected in 1970,
after defeating the renowned Adam Clayton Powell Jr.
Congressman Rangel is the principal author of the $5 billion Federal
Empowerment Zone demonstration project to revitalize urban neighborhoods
throughout America. He is also the author of the Low Income Housing
Tax Credit, which is responsible for fi nancing 90 percent of the
affordable housing built in the U.S. in the last ten years. The
Work Opportunity Tax Credit, which Rangel also championed, has provided
thousands of jobs for underprivileged young people, veterans and
ex-offenders. A founding member and former chair of the Congressional
Black Caucus, he was a member of the House Judiciary Committee during
the hearings on the articles of impeachment of President Richard
Nixon. His memoir, And I Haven’t Had a Bad Day Since, was
recently published by St. Martin’s Press.
