New Black Judges
In America®
Book Released At NBA Convention
Columbus,
Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s
largest annual directory publisher targeting the African-American
market, is releasing the all-new and updated Black
Judges In America®
– The 2005 Edition at a special book unveiling reception
held at the National Bar Association’s (NBA) 80th Annual
Convention in Orlando, Florida on Monday, August 1, 2005.
The Foreword to this 2005 Edition is written
by the Honorable Craig S. Strong, National Chair of the Judicial
Council of the National Bar Association. This 240-page publication
features pictures and biographical data on more than 200 African-American
judges throughout the country.
The Honorable Thelma Wyatt Cummings Moore,
past chair of the Judicial Council and chair of the Past Chairs’
Task Force contributes the Introduction. She states, “The
active presence of blacks on the courts of the United States has
enormous significance in setting examples for young people that
they may aspire to become lawyers, jurists, and other decision-makers
within the justice system. Black jurists, and most especially
the members of the Judicial Council, extend themselves beyond
the bench into schools and communities to inspire respect for
the law and to serve as role models and mentors.”
Kim M. Keenan, president of the National
Bar Association states, “African-American judges are not
only servants of justice, they are symbols of the color-blind
nature of justice. By commemorating their service as judicial
officers in this directory, we demonstrate our abiding appreciation
for their hard work and pioneering efforts to improve the administration
of justice in our nation.”
The Honorable Craig S. Strong, chair of The
Judicial Council of the National Bar Association shares, “This
edition shall serve not only as a resource, but also as a means
to educate and inform the media of the increasing diversity of
the judicial system and to make the public aware of the extent
that black judges are dispensing justice in America. As the number
of black judges increases, it is my hope that our presence affects
the attitude and perspectives of the judiciary.”
The book Black Judges In America®
- The 2005 Edition will be available at libraries, bar associations,
and national bookstore chains within the coming weeks.
