Fifth Edition of Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®
to Pay Tribute to the Honorable Louis Stokes

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s largest annual directory publisher serving the African-American market, will feature a special tribute to the Honorable Louis Stokes, the first African-American member of Congress from the state of Ohio, in its fifth anniversary edition of Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®.

Born in 1925 in Cleveland and raised by his mother, Stokes graduated from Central High School, where he was a member of the school newspaper, the Latin club and the track team. Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II. Subsequently, he returned to Cleveland and enrolled at Case Western Reserve University before earning a Doctor of Laws degree from Cleveland-Marshall Law School in 1953.

Before his election to Congress, Stokes practiced law for 14 years and was a co-founder of the Stokes, Character, Terry, Perry, Whitehead, Young and Davidson law firm. Notably, he participated in three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, including the landmark search and seizure case Terry v. Ohio.

In 1968 Stokes made history as the first African American elected to the House of Representatives from Ohio. During his tenure, he co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus, served on a number of congressional committees, including Appropriations, Intelligence and Ethics, and was a champion for civil rights. He served 15 consecutive terms in Congress, retiring in 1999. He currently serves as senior counsel for Squire, Sanders and Dempsey L.L.P.

The Honorable Marcia L. Fudge to pen foreword for fifth edition of Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the country’s largest annual directory publisher catering to the African-American market, is pleased to announce that newly elected U.S. Representative Marcia L. Fudge will pen the foreword for the fifth anniversary edition of Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®.

Making history as the first African-American female mayor of Warrensville Heights, Fudge has served the Cleveland suburb as mayor since 1999. Following the sudden and tragic death of her friend, the Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones, she was overwhelmingly selected to fill the vacant seat of the 11th District, which represents eastern Cuyahoga County, on November 4, 2008.

Prior to her tenure as mayor, Fudge worked as the director of personal property tax and director of the Cuyahoga County Budget Commission. She also served as director of budget and finance for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office and chief of staff for Congresswoman Jones. An undergraduate of The Ohio State University, she earned a juris doctorate degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University.

In addition to featuring Fudge’s foreword, the fifth edition will also pay tribute to the Honorable Louis Stokes, the first African-American member of Congress from the state of Ohio, whose contributions to civil rights and social justice have been innumerable.

Who's Who Family Mourns Loss of Congresswoman
Stephanie Tubbs Jones

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Co., LLC joins the nation, and especially the Cleveland community, in mourning the untimely loss of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

Who’s Who Publishing was honored to have paid tribute to Congresswoman Tubbs Jones in the fourth edition of Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®. Unveiled February 29, 2008 at the InterContinental Hotel, the book features Tubbs Jones on its cover.

Mayor Frank G. Jackson to Pen Foreword for
Fourth Edition of Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®

Columbus, Ohio – Frank G. Jackson, the 56th mayor of Cleveland, has signed on to pen the foreword for the fourth edition of Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®.

A Vietnam War veteran, Mayor Jackson grew up in Cleveland, attended Cleveland public schools, received an associate degree from Cuyahoga County Community College and a bachelor’s, master’s, and law degree from Cleveland State University. A true product of the city, Jackson brings genuine love and enthusiasm to his office and his mission to improve the quality of life for all residents of Cleveland.

Mayor Jackson was elected to Cleveland City Council in 1989 where he served Ward 5 neighborhoods for 16 years. Extending his dedication beyond his ward, Jackson was elected council president in 2002 where he worked to retain jobs, encourage new businesses and growth in the city, and revitalize the city’s diverse neighborhoods. In 2005, his commitment to the city of Cleveland prompted him to run for mayor.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones Signs on to Pen Foreword for Third Edition of Who's Who In Black Cleveland®

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s largest annual directory publisher targeting the African-American market, proudly announces that the Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first African-American woman elected to the United States House of Representatives from Ohio, has agreed to write the foreword for the third edition of Who's Who in Black Cleveland®.

Tubbs Jones is a lifelong resident of the 11th District in which she serves. She currently sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, the first African-American woman to do so, and is a strong advocate of wealth building, economic development, healthcare, and quality education for all. She is in her fourth term in office.

Prior to her election to the House, Tubbs Jones served as the first African American and the first female Cuyahoga County, Ohio prosecutor. She was also the first African-American woman to sit on the Common Pleas bench in the State of Ohio and was a municipal court judge in the city of Cleveland.

A graduate of Cleveland Public Schools and Case Western Reserve University, Tubbs Jones is a member of several civic and professional organizations, including the Congressional Black Caucus and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is also a trustee and lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Harper named local publisher for
Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®

April 2004 - COLUMBUS, OHIO – Who’s Who Publishing Company announced today the selection of Cleveland, Ohio native Constance Harper as the publisher for its upcoming publication titled Who’s Who In Black Cleveland®. The company publishes an upscale brand of “Who’s Who” directories that highlight the significant and outstanding achievements of African Americans in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, and St. Louis.

Sunny Martin, founder and CEO of Who’s Who Publishing Company, stated, “We are extremely fortunate and blessed to have such a seasoned and veteran journalist as Ms. Harper as part of our national team of publishers. Ms. Harper has been recognized extensively for her strong commitment to community service in the Cleveland area.”

Constance Harper is a product of the Cleveland Public School system where she began her career in journalism. At Central State University, she served as the editor of the college paper and school yearbook. She did graduate study at the University of Chicago. She was selected as one of two journalists to complete a Fellowship in Urban Studies at the University of Chicago. She remained at the university briefly to work in the Public Affairs Department. She returned to Cleveland to direct the Women’s Committee for Mayor Carl B. Stokes’ re-election, and Harper currently serves as the executive vice president and editor of the Call & Post newspapers. Ms. Harper is a member of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church.

The upcoming publication Who’s Who In Black Cleveland® will feature pictures and biographical data on a significant amount of African American leaders in the corporate arena, civic and non-profit sector, educators, women achievers, spiritual leaders, community leaders, youth achievers, and many more professionals. The publication will be officially released in October of 2004 and will retail at local bookstores and newsstands throughout the greater Cleveland area.
