Harvey B. Gantt to Pen Foreword for the Second Edition of
Who’s Who In Black Charlotte

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s largest annual directory publisher targeting the African-American market, announced that Harvey B. Gantt, co-founder of Gantt Huberman Architects, signed on to pen the foreword for the second edition of Who’s Who In Black Charlotte™.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Gantt attended Iowa State University from 1960 until 1962. He applied to Clemson University in 1961, and was admitted in 1963 in forbearance of a court order, which made him the first black student to attend an all-white school in South Carolina. Gantt received, with honors, a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1965. After graduation, he joined Odell Associates, and in 1970 he received a Master of City Planning degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Gantt co-founded Gantt Huberman Architects with Jeff Huberman in 1971. The firm has received numerous awards, including the 2006 American Institute of Architects (AIA) North Carolina Firm Award. A lecturer and visiting critic at colleges and universities, Gantt currently serves on visiting committees at the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In recognition of his achievements, the new Afro-American Cultural Center in Charlotte is being named the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts and Culture. Gantt is married to the former Lucinda Brawley. They have four adult children.

Wayne K. Brown Named Senior Partner & Associate Publisher of Who’s Who Publishing Company

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company ecstatically announces that Wayne K. Brown will serve the company as a senior partner, as well as associate publisher for a variety of markets, including Charlotte, South Florida and Philadelphia. He is founder of WKB Enterprises, LLC, based in Atlanta, Georgia, which he launched in 2008. Brown and his team of accomplished account managers from across the country will assist him in growing the business in the various markets. He brings more than 30 years of broadcasting and marketing experience to Who’s Who Publishing.

A native of Washington, D.C., Brown graduated from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. His 13 years at CBS headquarters in New York City working in CBS Network TV and CBS Radio launched his illustrious broadcasting career. Brown was then recruited to Charlotte to be president and general manager of three radio stations. After nine years in Charlotte, Brown joined Radio One, Inc. as a regional vice president and general manager of its Raleigh, Charlotte and Atlanta markets. In Atlanta, he managed four top-tiered radio stations.

Brown has received a plethora of recognition and awards for his leadership and innovative new revenue ideas. He is most proud of his work with a number of community organizations and the scholarship established in his name for minority students at the Newhouse School of Communications. A member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and 100 Black Men of America, he is married to Neysa and is the father of two teenage boys.

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s largest annual directory publisher targeting the African-American market, will release the historic inaugural edition of Who’s Who In Black Charlotte™ on July 30, 2008, at the beautiful Westin Charlotte. The Unveiling Reception gala is expected to attract dignitaries and hundreds of the Queen City’s affluent and influential members of the African-American community. Sonja Gantt of WCNC will serve as the mistress of ceremonies, and entertainment will be provided by the Reggie Blue Trio.

Featuring more than 200 of Charlotte’s finest leaders in business and the community, the inaugural edition of Who’s Who In Black Charlotte™ is truly an important publication, highlighting the stories and achievements of African Americans in a variety of fields throughout the city. Legendary civil rights attorney Julius L. Chambers contributed the foreword for this high-quality publication, which also features an in-depth review of Charlotte’s early African-American history, penned by Fannie Flono, alongside a number of stories about the city’s interesting personalities, including Patrick Graham, Gloria Pace King, Max Siegel and Geraldine Sumter.

Julius L. Chambers Signs on to Pen Foreword for
Inaugural Edition of Who’s Who In Black Charlotte™

Columbus, Ohio – Who’s Who Publishing Company, the nation’s largest directory publisher targeting the African-American market, announced today that Julius L. Chambers has signed on to write the foreword for the inaugural edition of Who’s Who In Black Charlotte™.

Chambers is a renowned lawyer who has contributed to the success of landmark civil rights cases, most notably Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education (1971), which led to federally mandated busing in an effort to integrate public schools. His other benchmark cases include Griggs v. Duke Power Co. (1971) and Albemarle Paper Co. v. Moody (1974), which are two of the Supreme Court’s most significant Title VII employment discrimination decisions.

A native of North Carolina, Chambers served as chancellor of his alma mater, North Carolina Central University, from 1993 to 2001. He is currently an attorney specializing in business matters, employment discrimination, education and civil rights at Ferguson, Stein, Chambers, Gresham & Sumter, P.A., a private law practice firm he started in 1967.

McDuffie Named Associate Publisher for
Who’s Who In Black Charlotte™


Columbus, Ohio - Who’s Who Publishing Company proudly announces that James McDuffie will join the Who’s Who family as associate publisher of Who’s Who In Black Charlotte. An assistant vice president with a major financial institution, McDuffie will work with Who’s Who Publishing corporate headquarters to publish this informative directory, which is planned to debut in Charlotte in 2008.

McDuffie brings to Who’s Who a diverse, well-rounded background with previous experiences that range from a software engineer to vice president of product management for a Fortune 500 company and CFO and co-founder of enCompass Securities, LLC. Additionally, he has international experience as a consultant, which provided him with a global understanding of people, business, and community. McDuffie is also the co-founder of Alex and Associates, a local marketing company that has partnered with Who’s Who Publishing to bring this historical publication to Charlotte, North Carolina.

A native of Durham, North Carolina, McDuffie is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He is a member of the NC Triangle INROADS Alumni Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the National Society of Black Engineers, Mortgage Bankers Association and other business and civic organizations. He devotes a portion of his time to educating the community on financial management and home ownership.
