Who’s Who Publishing Company announced in April of 2003 that Sherma Wise Thomas was named the Associate Publisher for its Who’s Who In Black Indianapolis® publication.

Sherma Wise-Thomas is the CEO of the Media Wise Communications Group, a multi-faceted organization engaged in a variety of media related ventures. A broadcast journalist by training and profession, this Chicago native has worked as an on-air reporter and anchor for a number of media organizations including WTLC Radio, WKYT-TV (CBS) in Lexington, Kentucky, WPDS-TV, and WFYI-TV (PBS).

She has produced a number of television projects and special events. Nationally, she has been the executive producer of the National Association of Black Journalists' annual award shows. Additionally, Wise created, produced and co-hosted a television show starring NBA star Reggie Miller.

Her community service distinctions include being the founder of the Lexington, Kentucky chapter of the Coalition of 100 Black Women and being named a "Kentucky Colonel," the highest civilian honor that can be bestowed by the governor. She is Vice-President Elect of the Junior League of Indianapolis and is married to Indianapolis attorney Gregory L. Thomas.


Honoree Spotlight

Gregg Bacon
Jazz Saxophonist & Flutist

A native of Indianapolis, “Sizzlin’” Gregg Bacon began performing jazz, blues and R&B as a teenager. Early in his career, he studied saxophone with Nicholas Brightman at Butler University and was mentored by saxophonist Charles Tyler and singer James Bell. Gregg taught himself and perfected the technique of playing two and three saxophones simultaneously.

His touring and performance highlights include opening for Alex Bugnon, Najee, Aretha Franklin, Slave, The O’Jays, Babyface and John Cougar Mellencamp at the Payton Manning Children’s Hospital Fundraiser. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s featured guest on New Year’s Eve 2004, he has also played in Las Vegas, Lucas Oil Stadium’s grand opening, the Indianapolis Colts’ Super Bowl Ring Party, the Indianapolis Jazz Fest, the Indiana Black Expo and the Elkhart Black Expo.

Gregg is an active volunteer for Clarian Health Breast Cancer Survivors and the St.Vincent’s Foundation Breast Cancer Awareness. He is a member and musician at Liberation A.M.E. Zion Church, and was featured with its mass choir on a Christmas CD released in 2008. His CDs include Makin’ Bacon, Secret Place, Jam Faktor and My New America.
