The Honorable Maxine Herring Parker
Councilor, District 4
Birmingham City Council
The Honorable Maxine Herring Parker serves as the Birmingham City Council representative for District 4. Parker was first elected to the city council in 2005, easily defeating the incumbent and winning a runoff. She is chair of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Committee, and also serves on the Public Improvement and Utilities committees.
A natural activist, Parker has successfully lobbied the state legislature and makes a strong case for federal funding to support quality of life issues. She has received numerous honors for her dedication. She is a retired 41-year employee of Talladega College, Alabama’s oldest historically black college, where she served as executive assistant to the president. Her tenure afforded her the opportunity to serve under the administration of six presidents, six interim presidents and six board of trustee chairpersons.
Parker’s spiritual growth and development is being nurtured at Oak Street Baptist Church, where she serves as a clerk/secretary. She is a member of the Flora Herring Mission and the Sunday school women’s Bible class.
