As publisher of this inaugural publication, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to some and present to others profiles of outstanding African-American Michiganians in the healthcare industry. It was an honor to meet and work with so many of our talented healthcare professionals that truly see their roles not only as a job, but a passion to help our citizens navigate the healthcare system.

This is one of the most viable industries in the country with the largest growth in jobs. Given my 18 years in the healthcare industry, this was a natural fit for me and it was my goal to spark real dialogue and debate about the role African Americans play in the C-suite of healthcare organizations. It is my belief, and there is data to support this, if more individuals of color were in the C-suite, there would be greater movement and a balanced perspective relative to business decisions to address healthcare disparities.

I am committed along with Real Times Media and Who’s Who Publishing to provide information, forums and publications that will explore these topics in healthcare. Every day there is a clarion call for a new obstacle to overcome or cause to champion for African Americans and communities of color in general.

Despite all of that, it is equally great to know that we can celebrate the achievements and milestones and truly demonstrate how far we have come as a people. This inaugural publication is just the beginning, look for future editions and events by VITAL SIGNS. Please enjoy reading the many inspiring pages of this book and celebrate our achievements in the healthcare industry. And please make a commitment today to ensure these books get in the hands of our young people in schools, youth facilities and higher education institutions. Sincerely,

Lloyd L. Banks
